Christmas Tree Lighting in
Derby

Santa came by special delivery from the fire
department!
The City of Derby’s Cultural Commission held its
traditional Friday after Thanksgiving Day Christmas Tree
lighting. Groups from St. Mary-St. Michael as well as the Derby Middle
and Derby High School and from the Derby Senior Center and New Life
Church performed assorted Christmas Carols and festive songs.
The weather was fabulous with just enough “nip” in
the air for the occasion. Connies of Derby supplied Hot Chocolate and
the Derby Public Works once again decorated Derby’s Birmingham Green
with a spectacular display. Dave Stec was on hand to help with the
lighting as well as Santa, Mayor Anthony Staffieri and 3 little Santa
helpers, Danny Soto, Maxwell DiCarlo & Chris Soto.
Santa, who arrived in style in a fire truck
from the Birmingham Fire Department driven by Ron Culmo, was on hand for
photos and hugs for those who wanted them and candy canes were passed
out to those children who wanted them. People had their photos taken in
front of the tree that was located in the center of the Green. Stop by
the Green at night and maybe take a photo for your next family Christmas
card.
