State D.O.T. Removes Graffiti
Move mouse over picture to see what it looked like before the cleanup. The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation has cleaned up a major eyesore in the city and taken steps to prevent future vandalism. The northbound entrance ramp to Route 8 from Route 34 coming into the downtown area by the train station has been covered with unsightly and obscene graffiti for some time. Some of the graffiti was located on areas where the perpetrators posed a safety risk to themselves in doing the painting.
The graffiti was highly visible not only to passing motorists, but to the users of the Derby Greenway which passes right under the entrance ramp. State crews recently moved into the area and completely removed all of the graffiti. They also installed a fence blocking easy access to the side of the ramp where the graffiti was painted.
New Greenway access point on Rt. 34 The cleanup effort was especially timely now that a new access point to the popular Greenway has been added at that very point so that people may park at the train station and access the Greenway from Rt. 34 right next to the Rt. 8 entrance ramp. We want to thank the Department of Transportation for their efforts. Posted December 1, 2008 |
